New: Last.fm Scrobbling

Anyone who likes to keep track of their music has known Last.fm for a long time. The service collects what you listen to and turns it into your very own listening history. Ampado now brings this feature along directly: the tracks you play in Ampado can be sent to Last.fm automatically.

The whole thing is designed as an add on feature on purpose. You decide for yourself whether you want to use it. Once it is enabled, everything runs in the background without you having to do anything while listening.

What scrobbling actually means

Scrobbling is the term for automatically reporting a played track to Last.fm. Every time you play a song in Ampado, it is recorded as a so called scrobble in your Last.fm profile. Over time this creates a complete overview of your listening habits.

Last.fm turns this data into fascinating statistics: your most played artists, your favourite albums and recommendations for new music that fits your taste. Your Ampado becomes part of your entire listening history across all your devices.

Fully optional and controllable at any time

Scrobbling in Ampado is always voluntary. You only enable it if you really want to, and you can switch it off just as quickly. Without enabling it, not a single track leaves your Mac heading for Last.fm.

That keeps you in control. If you want to listen completely privately for a while, you simply switch scrobbling off. When you want to build your listening history again, you enable it with a single click.

Artist, title and album are sent

So that a scrobble is matched correctly in your profile, Ampado sends the relevant details for each track: artist, title and album. This information comes straight from the tags of your file, from the same fields you can maintain in the Ampado Tag Editor.

The cleaner your tags are maintained, the more accurately each track lands in the right place in your Last.fm profile. A well filled album and artist field makes sure your statistics are correct and your recommendations really match your taste.

Sign in to Last.fm once, then it runs

So that Ampado can match your tracks to your account, you sign in to Last.fm once. Signing in happens securely through Last.fm itself, so Ampado never gets to see your password. After you confirm, the connection is set up.

From that moment on you no longer have to worry about anything. Ampado sends the tracks you play automatically as long as scrobbling is active. If you want to disconnect again, you can sign out at any time.

Your data, your decision

Ampado only sends data to Last.fm if you have explicitly enabled scrobbling and signed in. Only the details of the track you are currently listening to are sent, meaning artist, title and album, so your profile stays complete.

If the feature is switched off, your listening stays completely private on your Mac. That way you can decide for yourself when and whether your music becomes part of your public listening history.
