New: Search in Files and Playlists
With CMD+F you can find any song in your folders and playlists in seconds. The search starts while you type and covers file names and metadata.
The new search in the Ampado PRO file list
In Internet Radio and Apple Music, you have always been able to search in Ampado. Now search is also available where your own music lives: in the file list and in your playlists.
Especially with large folders containing hundreds of files or long playlists, this saves you endless scrolling. One shortcut, a few letters, and the song you are looking for is at the top of the list.
Search as You Type with CMD+F
Press CMD+F and a search field slides down above the list with the cursor already in it. As you type, Ampado filters the list and only shows matching tracks. A counter next to the search field tells you how many matches there are, for example 12 / 480.
Press Enter or Escape to leave the search field while the filter stays active. Your arrow keys then control playback again. The small x in the search field clears your input and brings back the full list. The file list and the playlist each remember their own search.
Search File Names and Metadata
The search doesn't just look at file names but also at your songs' metadata: title, artist, album, album artist, composer, genre, year, comment, as well as Finder comments and Finder tags. That way you will find a song even if the file is just called “Track 07.mp3”.
You can combine several search terms with spaces, and only songs that contain all terms are shown. So “daft 2001” finds exactly the Daft Punk tracks from 2001. Upper and lower case don't matter, and neither do accents: “beyonce” finds “Beyoncé”.
Playback Follows Your Search
When a filter is active, playback follows it too. Next and previous track only jump between the songs currently shown. If you search for an artist, for example, you can simply listen to only their songs one after another.
If a song is playing that gets hidden by the search, Ampado simply keeps playing without interruption. A new search never interrupts your music.
Show and Hide the Search Bar
If you want to keep the search bar visible, you can show it from the menu bar under View → Show Search Bar, in the Settings under Appearance, or with the shortcut OPTION+CMD+F. You will also find the search itself in the Edit → Search menu.
When you hide the search bar, the filter is reset as well and you immediately see all files again. That way there is never a hidden search quietly narrowing down your list. Of course, both shortcuts can be customized in the Settings under Shortcuts.
An Ampado PRO Feature
Search in files and playlists is part of Ampado PRO. The free version (lite) includes the full player, but not the search. Ampado PRO is a one-time purchase with no subscription, available on the Mac App Store.
